My injury, The Boardshop, and other News

Hey guys...

So I was recently injured in a longboarding accident where I basically went head over toe. But, a bit of backstory. I got cocky, and decided to take a really steep road, like a 15% grade kind of road, and then I fell. I got speed wobbles , fell head over feet. Hit my head. Suffered a TBI, and now I'm partially deficit on my right side.

So, that's no fun...

...But now...

I have my own boardshop in it's very own building. I'm very happy and proud to have it in my hometown of Centralia. Let's see, what else is new with me - oh yeah, I am focusing more on LDP, or Long Distance Pushing/Pumping. Now granted, I don't have all the movements back, but, hopefully, with time/practice, I will be able to get it down to a science.

A new product we have in the Boardshop is Loaded boards, which is a big deal. And also, along with Loaded, we have Orangatang wheels, which is such a massive achievement. 

I don't know though, but I am happy. Not just happy with the personal progress, but happy for the present and future. I'm excited to see what this crazy journey called life throws at me, and hey! I might just freeride again one day. But for now, I'm happy.  

Honest Review of the Ahmyo Vibez

Honest Review of the Ahmyo Vibez

The Ahmyo Vibez is a 64mm tall, 41.5 wide wheel. It has a 36.5 contact patch, and it's duro is 84a, making for a really steezy wheel.

To me, I don't see anything wrong with these wheels. They're a good freeride wheel. They're fast. They thane, and they last for a good while, too.

They come stone ground, so it's very easy to slide straight out of the package.

My own business

New Skate Shop

So...there's the news. I'm filing for a business license already, and I'm excited! There'll be the standard stuff, like decks, trucks, bushings, wheels etc. But, I'll have other stuff, too. Bikes, and Downhill trikes. Plus, clothes and shoes and shit, too. It'll be sick, and will be coming up, very, very soon. :)

New Helmet

I haven't really been skating for a lil' bit.

"Why's that?"

You may ask. Well, my helmet broke. So, I ordered a Predator FR7 Helmet, as a replacement. I chose this because it's well know, it's semi local (Canada is close to Washington, so it works.) and it has a small visor.

I'm digging it so far. Feels really light, durable, but I'll do a more extensive review once I get more experience.

Walmart Boards, and Boarders Rant

Walmart buys the cheapest stuff, and sells it for much more than it's actual worth. Kryptonics is a perfect example. The boards split easily, are poorly made, mass produced, and inexpensive. The only reason they get sales is because they're CHEAP. At my High School, there's only two skaters who skate downhill (and do it legitimately). Me, and Kenneth. Other than that, it's full of idiots who know nothing about skating, and buy a fuckton of Kryptonics boards. They board around, without any safety or proper technique, making a bad name for the longboard community, and they never question the quality of what they buy.

 They buy Kryptonics. Or Yocaher. Or Santa Cruz. Or the other nameless walmart/amazon boards that exist. All because its cheap. However, you get what you pay for. And in the end, they get shitty boards, that're advertised as amazing, unique, professional downhill boards that can go up to 90mph and slide with ease and this and that when in reality, if you hit 25mph on your board, it'll most likely break, and not slide.

 I'm lucky my old Yocaher board from ages ago held up to 28mph. (This was when I first started, and got started in dh/fr) . Especially considering it was a complete from some nameless sports store in Fairway. Nameless trucks, Yocaher board, Abec 7 Bearings, and punked wheels, is what I rode for ages until I started learning.

 Now, for the regular commuter, I'm not saying buy a 400$ setup for dh.

 Obviously not.

 What I am saying, is, buy from a reliable brand. Landyachtz, Omen, etc. Get a good setup, for like 100,120 bucks, and use that. Nothing from China. Never ever buy something made from China. Buy good shit, and ride that. Nothing from Zumiez, or Walmart, please. Buy online if you have to. Just do some research, and get something reliable. Please, avid commuter. Buy something safe.

Honest Review of the Paris V2 43° Trucks

Honest review of the Paris V2's.

These trucks are really, really fucking great. I love these trucks, and granted they do have some minor things, I recommend these in a heartbeat.

Heres the good.

• Rake
• Very, very light
• Open bushing seat
• Very surfy, carvy feel

I love 'em. The rake helps the already carvy, open bushing seat. I feel very fluid on these trucks when goin down. They're super stable, too. They're a low, 43 degrees.

Here's the bad, though.

Not too much. 

• Cheap Paint
• Cheap Metal

Anything will destroy the paint. I only got the color gold, because raw wasn't available (No paint is lighter than with paint). I curbed my trucks, so of course paint came off. However, concrete chips, wood, mud, pebbles, and anything else basically will hit the paint, and take it off. 

 Not only that, but the metal is a bit cheap. Granted, my hangers are stronger than the V1 Paris, but they still bent a little. Not by much, only by 2mm or so. Not too bad. It's light. but that's because the metal is light, and bendable.

In conclusion...

GET THESE FUCKING TRUCKS.

They are well worth the money. Super carvy, fun, and stable. 8/10
